In 2014, Austin taught himself to roast coffee using concentrated sunlight — and spent years trying to scale a sun-powered roaster before running into one obstacle after another. In 2018 he switched fuels: real wood fire, real flame, and Primal Roast Coffee was born.
Today it's a wood-roasted, organic, fair-trade pea berry coffee, roasted right here in Boise — plus a shop with fire pits out front and instruments hanging on the walls inside.
